My Favorite Frugal Cleaning Recipes

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to share my favorite frugal cleaning recipes. I've used these for awhile now and find they work just fine. Plus they're as cheap as chips!

Scourer

Simply use baking soda to scrub out your bath or basin. Either, sprinkle baking soda all over the bath tub (or basin) and then scrub around with a damp cloth. Or, using a damp cloth pat it in a saucer of baking soda and scrub around. Either way works just fine!

All Purpose Cleaner

I fill a spritzer bottle with half water and half white vinegar. I use this to do quick cleaning jobs on surfaces such as benches, or kettles, etc. The vinegar smell goes away as soon as the item is dry. (You can add some essential oil or perfume to the bottle if you like.)

Window Cleaner

I usually use damp newspaper to scrub my windows and dry with dry newspaper. Sometimes I might use my All Purpose Cleaner with a rag instead.

Laundry Soap

These days I grate in 2-3 tsp of finely grated Sunlight Soap and use a warm wash. White Vinegar for the softener (about 1/2 cup).

Dishwash Soap

I am using Sunlight Soap. I keep the soap on a saucer by the sink (with a piece of XLO sponge under it to keep it from getting mucky). I simply fill my kitchen sink with hot water as usual, just without liquid dishwash, and wet my cloth and lather it with soap. I grab each dish scrub around it and then dip it in the water and then place in the drying rack. Easy peasy!

(NOTE: I do rinse my dishes and stack them before I wash them, before the food sticks to the plates like concrete!)

Bathroom Soap

I use ordinary old bar soap in a dish now, with a piece of XLO cloth under it to keep it from getting mucky. Simple, economical, and no extra chemicals!

Air Freshener.

Very easy recipe. Take an average size spritzer bottle and, using a funnel, pour in 1 tablespoon baking soda. Add 1 tablespoon white vinegar on top and wait till it stops fizzing. Then fill up the bottle with water. Works well and you can spritz as freely as you like as it is so cheap to make! Shake each time before use. :-)

(NOTE: You can add essential oil or perfume to the mix before putting the spritzer lid back on.)

Hope some of you will be blessed with these economical cleaning recipes. It doesn't have to complicated or expensive to clean your home!
